The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 32-year-old Phelps man following an investigation into trees that were cut down at a property without consent.
Raymond Tortorello Jr., 32, of Phelps is accused of requesting a group of workers cut down several trees on a property in Ontario County without the owners consent.
Tortorello was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. Investigators said the value of the trees was approximately $2,500 and that he was a tenant.
The property owner, Marcus Franz, who reached out to FingerLakes1.com said that Tortorello worked with a neighbor to cut down, then sell the trees on his property without permission.
He says the Department of Environmental Conservation is set to visit the property this week to assess the damage.
Tortorello has previously been arrested in Seneca and Cayuga counties. In Auburn he was sentenced to five years probation for stealing around $175,000 from a relative in Auburn.
