Food truck crashes into Erie Canal in Wayne County

Officials in Wayne County say a single-car crash is under investigation.

It happened in the town of Macedon around 6:26 a.m. on April 15th along State Route 31 near the intersection of Alderman Road.

Deputies say the operator of a food truck, identified as Mario Torres, 37, of Farmington said the lost control due to a mechanical issue and had to jump out of the moving vehicle before it crashed into the Erie Canal.

Torres was not injures in the collision.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the scene, due to a potential spill of oil or gasoline into the canal.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Deputies say they were assisted by Macedon Center and South Macedon Fire Department. The Town of Macedon Ambulance also responded to the scene.
