Multiple supermarkets in the area are requiring masks.
They aren’t going to let Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new mandate play out between customers.
Both Tops and Wegmans, a pair of the region’s largest grocery chains, posted notices letting customers know that if they come inside – they will need a face covering or mask.
Cuomo’s order applies to any public setting or situation where a person cannot maintain social distancing. He says that a person can wear it while they are out, or temporarily pull it down while they are not around people.
However, grocery stores say that option won’t exist inside since it’s too difficult to maintain social distancing.
The order took effect on Friday at 8 p.m.
