The Office for the Aging in Ontario County has seen a significant jump in usage amid the pandemic.
In fact, the number of meals served jumped nearly 30 percent in one month.
Last week a total of 326 meals went out compared to 243 at the end of February.
The Canandaigua Messenger says Irene Coveny, director of the Ontario County Office for the Aging was not caught off-guard by the increase in demand.
“We’ve had a lot more home-delivered meals, and that’s to be expected with COVID-19,” she told them.
In addition to the increased demand, the program is doing more with even fewer volunteers. However, when they expressed a need for volunteers — 80 people responded by signing up.
