Police say a North Syracuse driver was taken into custody after driving the wrong way on the New York State Thruway near Weedsport – forcing motorists off the roadway.
Troopers spotted a vehicle around 10 p.m. on Friday traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Thruway near Exit 40.
They immediately tried to catch up with the vehicle, which was causing others to swerve to avoid it. Eventually the vehicle was located, with its lights off.
The operator was identified as James Diffenderfer, 53, who was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated, second-degree reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.
No one was hurt, police said.
