Union leaders call wage freeze across NYS a ‘slap in the face’

On Thursday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a wage freeze among state workers.

Union leaders called the move a “slap in the face to law enforcement and people on the front lines battling the virus.”

The raises, which were expected this month, will be frozen for 90 days.

That freeze came amid concerns that New York may not have the budget strength to back them up down the road.

At this point, the state is staring down an estimated $15 billion revenue shortfall because of the pandemic.
