Wegmans is providing its workers extra protection as they work on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.
The company announced on Thursday that employees who want to wear face masks will be given the opportunity to wear them.
However, they noted that the Centers for Disease Control do not currently recommend that.
“We have always operated under the premise that we can only achieve our goals if we first meet the needs of our people. As a result, we have come to the decision that while not currently recommended by the CDC, any employee who feels more comfortable wearing a mask while working may do so. Our employees have always been our top priority, and will continue to be, as we work together to remain a safe place to work and shop,” the company said in a statement.
Employees will also get paid an extra $2 per hour during the month of April.
Paid sick leave will also be made available to employees during the pandemic.
