A police officer was shot and is in stable condition at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse after an incident in the city of Cortland.
The incident has been described by authorities as a domestic, and occurred on Elm Street. Neighbors looked on as armored vehicles, a number of emergency personnel and others arrived on-scene.
Chief Catalano says it started as a call for an argument between the suspect and his family. Police say the suspect is known to the department and has had run-ins with the department in the past, according to CNYCentral.
The officer was not named, but was shot while responding to the scene. The officer did return fire, but it’s not clear at this time if they struck the suspect.
The incident remains under investigation.
