Celebrate Commemorate has been cancelled. The annual events in the village of Waterloo celebrate the beginnings of Memorial Day.
The move to cancel was made out of an abundance of caution, organizers said, in coordination with the village of Waterloo, as well as Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
Here’s a full-statement released by Celebrate Commemorate:
“Upon recommendation by the Village of Waterloo Mayor & Administrator, and in accordance with the CDC’ 8 week ban on festivals, parades, and large gatherings, the 2020 Celebrate Commemorate Memorial Day events have been cancelled.
This decision did not come lightly nor without the consideration of the involvement of so many individuals, organizations, vendors and entertainment providers.
Given the uncertainty surrounding these types of large events for health reasons, it would be impossible to coordinate with all parties involved in a timely manner if this decision were to be delayed.Vendor fees will be processed for refunds within the next 30 days.
The committee has been working for several months to organize the 2020 event. This group of volunteers deserves a heartfelt thank you for their efforts, not only now but for the past 20 years of family friendly events provided for the community.
Every effort will be made to hold the solemn Commemoration on May 30th as has been the case for the past 153 years consecutively in Waterloo, NY the Birthplace of Memorial Day.”
