On Tuesday at approximately 11:30 a.m. police responded to a larceny in progress at the Walmart in Ithaca.
Police say the subject inside stole items, then ran into another nearby retail business. He changed his clothes, ran out, and left a suitcase inside the business.
Officers arrived and locked down the scene. They found what appeared to be an active one-pot style methamphetamine lab. Officers coordinated with the business to shut down so that the situation could be properly handled.
Assistance from New York State Police CCERT (Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team) was requested. CCERT members arrived on scene at about 1:45 p.m. CCERT did confirm an active and cooking meth solution at the location.
CCERT is currently processing evidence and working to make the scene safe. This process is expected to last until at least 4:30 p.m.
All businesses in the area are still open and accessible.
An active investigation is still going on related to this case so no further information will be released until an arrest is made, police said.
