With the NBA, NHL, PGA Tour, MLS and MLB seasons on-hold, the postponement of March Madness and the NYSPHSAA Winter Championships, we thought it would be a good time to break out our top forty Wayne-Finger Lakes HS basketball broadcasts over the past several years on FingerLakes1.com. Lyons vs. Clyde-Savannah games in 2017-18 regular season

Of all the Wayne-Finger Lakes games we cover, there is nothing like the Lyons-Clyde rivalry games. The Route 31 Rivalry came to a head in the 2017-18 season with both programs at the top of their games. It was Justice Smith’s junior year and Clyde-Savannah’s senior campaign for Derrick Chance, Dru Carnevale and Marcus Chance. The home and home series produced two of the most memorable games ever on FL1 Sports so we present them both here for you as our #1 broadcast(s) of all-time on FingerLakes1.com.

North Rose-Wolcott vs. Marcus Whitman in 2015 Sec. V Class B2 Semifinal on 3/4/15

An all-time classic as a pair of Wayne-Finger Lakes teams battle it out in the 2015 Class B2 Semifinals.

Lyons at Newark for the first time since 1970 on 2/2/13

On Saturday night on 2/2/13 the Lyons Lions and Newark Reds boys varsity basketball teams met for the first time since 1970 despite being neighboring communities in Wayne County whose gyms are separated by just 7 miles. The fact that this was happening for the first time in over 40 years made this a special night and the pregame broadcast intro was a great way to kick it off.

Geneva Panthers vs. Waterloo Indians in Section V Class B1 Championship 3/7/20

This one was just played a week ago but it will go down as an all-time classic. It was another iteration of Breakfast at the Big House with a 9:00 AM tip against a pair of cross-town FL East rivals at the Blue Cross Arena.

Section V Class C3 Semifinals with Naples/RCMCS & Lyons/Wheatland-Chili on 3/2/15

An undefeated Naples team with their season on the line and a Lyons team that would end up at the NYS Final Four? What a night in Bloomfield!

Lyons vs. Perry & Red Jacket vs. Marcus Whitman in 2020 Section V Class C2/C1 Championships 3/6/20

Another from the past week but how can you not include a doubleheader that has one Wayne-Finger Lakes team winning their 3rd consecutive sectional title and another winning their first title since 1976? Three Wayne-Finger Lakes teams in this Friday Night doubleheader in the Blue Cross!

Section V Class C2 Semifinals with Mynderse vs Early College/Newark vs Livonia on 3/1/17

An unbelievable night of basketball as a pair of FL East teams try to punch their ticket to the Blue Cross. This one had it all at Victor HS… a comeback that has to be seen to be believed, some dunks and a pair of tight games in a do-or-die situation.

South Seneca & Midlakes in Section V Class C & B Far West Regional Doubleheader on 3/10/18

Both South Seneca and Midlakes girls compete to advance to the 2018 NYS Final Four during this doubleheader at Honeoye Falls-Lima.

Red Creek Rams vs. North-Rose Wolcott on Senior Night on 2/14/17

Watch two of the all-time great players at North Rose-Wolcott and Red Creek go head to head on the final night of the regular season in 2016-17 in a Valentine’s Day Showdown that didn’t disappoint. Tyler Norris’ last game inside his home gymnasium.

Geneva vs. Hornell & Newark vs. Waterloo in Section V Class B1 Semifinals 3/3/20

The 2020 postseason gave us everything we could ask for… like a Class B semifinal featuring three Finger Lakes East teams that included a sweet alley-oop slam and a 1 possession game between Newark and Waterloo at Pittsford-Sutherland HS.

Newark Reds vs. Pal-Mac Red Raiders in the Section V Class B1 Championship 2/28/16

An all Finger Lakes East championship game in the Blue Cross and the game certainly didn’t disappoint!

2017 Section V Class A2 Championship | Wayne vs. Wilson-Magnet on 3/4/17

The Wayne Eagles shocked the world in 2017 on their way to an upset of Wilson-Magnet to win their school’s first Sectional title. Logan Blankenberg and company were just sophomores and even with the audio issued during the first half at Fairport High School this still ranks high as an all-time classic.

South Seneca vs. Holland in the NYSPHSAA Far West Regional on 3/5/16

It took overtime to decide who would represent Section V in the 2016 NYS Final Four at Hudson Valley Community College.

East Rochester vs. Clyde-Savannah in the Section V Class C1 Semifinal on 2/22/16

Wayne County rivals battle in an overtime thriller for a trip to the Blue Cross during the 2015-16 season at Pal-Mac HS.

Midlakes vs. Batavia in the Section V Class B1 Championship on FL1 Sports 3/2/19

The Midlakes Screaming Eagles trailed at halftime but unleashed an unbelievable second half to run away with the Class C1 Sectional Title in 2019. It was their second straight sectional championship en route to their second straight NYS Final Four.

2018 Geneva Holiday Classic with Lyons vs Northstar 12/28/18

Justice Smith. Miles Brown. This was the most anticipated regular season game of the year during Christmas break 2018 in Geneva’s brand new gymnasium

Clyde-Savannah vs. Lyons at the Atwood Gymnasium on 1/2/15

A one-possession game late in a jam packed Atwood Gymnasium always makes for a great broadcast! Damon Hunter was a senior for Lyons coach Zac Young, Derrick Chance was a freshman and Mike Turner and Joe Faniel were key upperclassmen on Tim Jackson’s Golden Eagles.

Red Jacket vs. Byron Bergen & Whitman vs. Gananda in Section V Class C1 Boys Semifinals 3/2/20

OK, we know… a lot of games from the past few weeks made the list… How can you not include a semifinal in a local gym that featured 3 Wayne-Finger Lakes teams? It was a highly entertaining night of basketball at Newark HS featuring some amazing individual efforts as four teams battled for a berth to the Blue Cross Arena.

We go way back to the 2012-13 season for this one. An overtime thriller between the Blue Devils and the Reds in Seneca Falls.

Mynderse at Waterloo Varsity Night Doubleheader on 12/20/18

What a night in Waterloo just a few days shy of Christmas in 2018. Waterloo (boys) hadn’t beaten Mynderse in over 10 years, a girls-boys doubleheader that brought both communities out and filled the biggest gym in the Wayne-Finger Lakes, and even a pep band!

Red Creek vs. Lyons at the Atwood on 2/3/15

Damon Hunter scored a season high 33 points as Lyons took on a Red Creek team featuring Jake Slobe on a February in 2015 when the Wayne County boys league was chock full of talent and the race for the league title featured teams like these two along with North Rose-Wolcott, East Rochester, Gananda and Clyde-Savannah. This game was also pushed a day ahead from the original date due to a snow day.

Lyons Lions at Mynderse Blue Devils on 12/28/13

A tight game in Seneca Falls between a pair of uncommon regular season opponents as the Lyons Lions and Mynderse Blue Devils square off at the Arthur L. Baker Gymnasium with Harold Weber on the call. It would go right down to the end in the waning days of 2013.

Lyons vs. Clyde-Savannah in Section V Girls Class C2 Semifinals on 3/4/20

The second half of this sectional semifinal doubleheader is as good as it gets in local girls high school basketball. Rivals Lyons and C-S square off at Canandaigua HS with their seasons on the line and pair of seniors, Taylor Sharp of Clyde-Savannah and Caiden Crego of Lyons attempt to put their teams on their backs and keep their high school careers alive.

A thriller at Cal-Mum High School as Mynderse and Wellsville battle for a spot at the Blue Cross Arena.

What a fun night at the Lyons Community Center in February of 2017 as Clyde-Savannah and Lyons squared off.

An early season triple-header showcase at Victor High School that featured a Geneva Panther team fresh off a sectional title, the Newark Reds with Tyler Collins at the helm and a hot-shooting Pal-Mac team coached by Dan Harris.

Kicking off our 2016-17 broadcast schedule with a truple-header. Lyons, Penn Yan, Waterloo, Weedsport and a Jamesville-Dewitt squad featuring current Syracuse Universtiy starting guard Buddy Boeheim who joined us in the booth during the postgame show after game one.

“Gamecasts” from 2014

Because we were prohibited from streaming live video during the postseason we developed a type of broadcast presentation we called “Gamecast”. These broadcasts would feature an expanded scoreboard presentation with the camera mostly on the announcers with some random shots of the gymnasium, especially during the pre and post game. It would be impossible to include these Gamecasts with our full broadcasts that made the list above but we wanted to highlight a couple of the best games here…

High School Soccer on FL1 Sports?
