Lyons falls to Caledonia-Mumford in a wild Class C State play-in game

The Lyons Lions season came to an end on Wednesday night as they fell 78-73 in overtime to the Caledonia-Mumford Raiders at Newark High School in the Class C State Play-In game.

Caledonia-Mumford got off to a hot start and led 20-14 at the end of the first quarter. But, Lions quickly answered back and ended up taking the lead just a few minutes into the second quarter. At the halftime break, the game was tied at 32 a piece. The Raiders outscored the Lions 20-15 in the third quarter. However, Lyons held Caledonia-Mumford to just 13 points in the fourth quarter and Justin Smith sent the game into overtime after a put-back at the buzzer. The Lions turned the ball over at crucial spots in overtime and the Raiders held on for this victory in front of a mostly Lyons friendly crowd.

Vin Molisani scored a game-high 29 points for the Raiders. Kyle Wade finished with 19. Joe Laursen chipped in with 13.

Justin Smith scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half for Lyons. This was his first game since early January. Horace Betts added 15 and freshman J.C. Walker finished with 12.

Caledonia-Mumford will take on the Section VI champion Middle Early College on Saturday at Buffalo State in the Far West Regionals. It will be the Raiders first Regional appearance since 1979. (UPDATE: The NYSPHSAA has postponed their winter championships indefinitely)
