Sheriff Jim Allard says his deputies responded to a fatal crash on Wednesday, which occurred a little after 4 p.m. on State Route 415 in Avoca.
He says a 17-year-old was traveling in a 2006 Hyundai with three passengers, one of which died. The three passengers ranged in age from 16-18. The 18-year-old, identified as Christopher O’Dell, of Avoca, died from the crash.
Allard says the 16-year-old passenger is in critical, but stable condition, while the 17-year-old was treated and released.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Evidence Recovery Unit processed the crash scene, according to Allard.
The investigation is continuing into determining the contributing factors of the crash and continuing to collect information and evidence relating to the investigation.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the O’Dell family and the entire Avoca community who are grieving and working through this tragedy,” Sheriff Allard said.
He thanked the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department, the Bath Volunteer Ambulance, Bath Volunteer Fire Department and the New York State Police for their assistance at the scene of this investigation.
