No. 7 Syracuse outscored No. 6 Northwestern, 8-1, over the final 19 minutes to record a 16-11 victory in Evanston, Ill. on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Orange defense limited the Wildcats, which entered the game as the top-scoring team in the nation, to 13 goals below their season average of 24.25.
“We challenged our defense with assistant coach Caitlin Defliese leading that charge and held them to 11 goals, which as an amazing job,” said Syracuse head coach Gary Gait. “It was a full team effort. I thought our defense was spectacular, especially when Northwestern was making a run. We got some stops and were able to make a run back of our own.”
