Pursuit begins with stolen vehicle in Farmington; ends with crash into Sodus apartment building
A Rochester man has been charged after a police chase in a stolen car, which ended with him colliding with an apartment building in the town of Sodus.
It all started with a vehicle, which was stolen from the 7Eleven store in Farmington late-Saturday. The car’s owner reportedly left the car unlocked and running while they went inside the convenience store.
That’s when Joanell Mangual, 28, jumped into the vehicle and fled.
Troopers spotted the car and chased it down State Routes 96 and 88. The chase was stopped in Newark due to safety concerns for potential pedestrians.
The vehicle was later spotted, which resulted in a second chase. This one ended when the car smashed into a building located at 182 West Main Street in Sodus. The driver attempted to flee on foot, but could not because of injuries sustained in the wreck.
The driver was arrested on a number of charges in Ontario and Wayne counties.
