Teen ticketed after Phelps crash, one passenger sent to Strong Memorial Hospital

On Sunday around 12:53 a.m. deputies responded to Griffith Road at the intersection with Toll Road in Phelps for a reported one-car crash with minor injuries.

Deputies responded to the crash with the assistance of Phelps Fire and Ambulance, and determined Joshua Green, 18, of Newark was traveling east and was following behind two other vehicles.

Those two vehicles slowed down for a portion of the roadway, which snow had drifted across, and Green failed to slow down in time.

He traveled off the south side of the roadway to avoid hitting the other vehicles. He side-swiped a utility pole and ended up in a field.

The collision caused telephone wires to hang and block the intersection with Toll Road.

A 17-year-old female passenger in the back seat suffered a minor back injury. She was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Green was cited for following too closely and will answer the charge at a later date.

Ontario Telephone responded to repair the downed wires and a portion of the road remains closed as of 8:30 a.m., according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
