Residents continue to hear that Ontario County Landfill odors will worsen before they improve

We’re hearing again that odors may worsen, before they improve.

Ontario County’s Director of Sustainability and Solid Waste Management Carla Jordan tells Finger Lakes News Radio that odors very well could worsen before they improve over the next several months.

Work is underway to remedy the odor issues, which have been on the rise of the last several months – and been a flashpoint for the Ontario County Board of Supervisors.

Jordan told FLNR that Casella has identified areas where gas collection systems are not working, and improving ventilation in those areas is a priority.

A horizontal methane-collection system will be installed in segments to minimize odor release, she told FLNR.

Jordan encouraged those who smell odors to call (888) 230-2004.
