UPDATE: Driver arrested on felony DWI charges after crash with child in car

Sheriff Tim Luce has provided an update on the one-vehicle crash that was reported Tuesday afternoon in Seneca County.

It was the crash that shut down Route 96 while first responders worked the scene.

Cindy Walborn, 62, of Interlaken was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

Around 1:30 p.m. Walborn was traveling south on Route 96 when her vehicle went off the road, and struck a tree. The vehicle sustained heavy damage, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A young child was inside the car and suffered non-life threatening injuries. Both the child and Walborn were transported to Cayuga Medical Center for evaluation.

Walborn was charged with felony aggravated DWI – under Leandra’s Law, DWAI, failure to maintain lane, and speed not reasonable.

She’s due to appear in CAP court on February 14th.




Crash temporarily closes Rt 96 in Seneca County

First responders were called to a serious crash in Seneca County on Tuesday that shut down a busy state road.

The closure came about 15 minutes after the one-vehicle crash was reported to 911.

The scene was in Ovid, and the roadway was shut down near the Happy Landing gas station.

Injuries were unknown, but a driver and baby were reported to be inside the vehicle that collided with a tree.

First responders from Lodi, Ovid, and Interlaken responded. South Seneca Ambulance was also called.
