Last year, two celebrities made headlines when plans were announced for a performing arts center along State Route 31 in Macedon.
The Wayne County campus has sat empty for a number of years. The celebrities at the helm of the project – Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys.
The concept was first introduced to the Macedon Town Board in August 2019, according to officials. Since then, things have stalled out.
But the plan isn’t dead, according to reporting by the Democrat & Chronicle.
Attorney Linda Shaw is representing Keys and Kasseem Dean (Swizz Beats).
The D&C says, Macedon Town Engineer Scott Allen said Keys and Dean obtained an extension on their purchase offer’s time frame, which postponed requests seeking approvals from the town to allow the project to move forward.
As of this week, there haven’t been any communications between the two parties.
Meanwhile, Dean has spoken about the project. He said it’s still in progress, during an interview with The Undefeated.
“When you’re dealing with something that has a school, a museum or other facilities on it, there are certain things that even star status or money can’t handle,” he said at the time. “The process is the process. Our goal is to open up something that is created by the creatives for the creatives.”
