State Police say a man from Chautaqua County was taken into custody after he broke into a home, held a resident at gunpoint, and overdosed on narcotics after his arrest.
The entire ordeal played out around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday when troopers were called to a home in the village of Fillmore, which is located in the Southern Tier.
When police arrived – they found Mark Sarama, 31, outside the victim’s home, with a resident of the home held at gunpoint near a vehicle.
Troopers commanded that Sarama stop, but he refused to comply. Police were forced to physically take him into custody.
That’s when police say he overdosed, and had to be transported to Jones Memorial Hospital.
Investigators linked Sarama to another home invasion earlier in the night. He’s accused of hitting a 90-year-old man with a handgun, knocking him unconscious. He then fired the gun inside the home, stole a flatscreen TV, and cash.
Sarama allegedly stole the handgun from a separate location.
Sarama was charged with kidnapping, two counts of burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, and resisting arrest.
He was held on $200,000 cash bail, or $300,000 secured bond.
A court appearance is scheduled later this month.
