The owners of an Italian restaurant along Route 5&20 between Waterloo and Geneva closed unexpectedly.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances we will be closing the restaurant,” the owners said in a post to Facebook. “Thank you to everyone who gave us a shot!”
Just two days earlier things appeared to be moving forward normally for the business – as they posted a contest and giveaway announcement on Facebook.
It’s unclear what prompted the closure, but many patrons voiced support for the restaurant and its owners.
The restaurant had originally been the home of Emile’s Restaurant, which had operated successfully for many years until it closed in 2016. It had been a mainstay on 5&20 for 37 years.
BG’s had been operated by Tracy and Bruce Johnson of North Rose.
“We are not in the restaurant business now so this will be a new venture,” Tracy told the Finger Lakes Times when the new restaurant was announced. The duo planned on using locally inspired art from high school students to slightly modify the interior of the restaurant.
Pictures posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page show no major changes.
