The town of Enfield, located in Tompkins County has made a move that some feel is controversial.
They will not recite the pledge of allegiance at the start of meetings any more.
It started as a discussion about removing the phrasing ‘under God’ from the pledge, which then turned into a broader debate around its necessity.
The board ultimately passed that resolution, to end the practice of reciting the pledge at the start of meetings, by a count of 4-1.
