Supervisors will consider including more properties in room tax collection in Ontario County

The Ontario County Board of Supervisors is considering a change to room tax collection.

The board will consider requiring this tax be collected on rentals with three or fewer units inside it, in addition to those larger ones.

The Finger Lakes Times reports that officials are proposing amendments to remove the exemption for facilities with three or fewer units and to expand the ways that revenue can be used. The county Board of Supervisors’ Planning & Environmental Quality Committee, which meets Monday at 1:30 p.m., will ask local state legislators to introduce those amendments.

Room tax revenues are designated by law to be used for the promotion of tourism and tourist attractions. Ontario County has been collecting this tax since 2002 when it was introduced.
