W-FL Friday: Geneva boys take over second place in FL East after win at Newark; Pal-Mac girls hand Waterloo their first loss of season

It was a busy night across the Wayne Finger Lakes boys and girls basketball leagues on Friday night.

On the boys side, one of the eight games featured an important matchup in the Finger Lakes East between the Geneva Panthers and the Newark Reds. Both teams entered the game tied for second with just one league loss. The Panthers controlled this game from the start. They never trailed and ended up with a 19-point road win. Devon Martin, a junior at Geneva, scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the way. You can watch a replay of this game below.

On the girls side, the Pal-Mac Red Raiders took down the Waterloo Indians by one point. The Red Raiders erased a nine-point deficit in the final minute to hand the Indians their first loss of the season. Katie Smyth, who scored a team-high 14 points, made the winning free-throw with 8.9 seconds left in the game.
