Tompkins County Legislature can’t agree on leadership for 2020

Instead of new leadership, the current answer is no leadership.

That was the result when the Tompkins County Legislature held their 2020 organizational meeting. That session, as held in nearly all local government entities, is meant to elect internal leadership.

How they get there: A simple majority vote.

According to the Ithaca Voice that wasn’t achievable, though. The session ended on Tuesday without new leadership. Four votes occurred for chair, and vice chair, but no decisions were made.

Legislators Mike Lane and Anna Kelles were nominated, but only received 7 votes each. Not enough for a majority. The legislators will try again at their second meeting of 2020.
