Why did the Potato Growers sell Empire Farm Days?

The Empire State Potato Growers made headlines a couple weeks ago when they announced a sale.

That sale was of the Empire Farm Days show, which is held annually at Lott Farms in Seneca Falls.

Lee Newspapers Inc., publishers of Country Folks weekly farm newspaper and several other publications purchased the festival.

Jamie Meyer, the executive director of the organization that oversees Farm Days says it was a natural transition. She spoke at length with the Finger Lakes Times about the changeover.

“(Lee) has been exhibiting at Farm Days for the past 30 years,” she told the Times. “The conversation (about the publishers taking it on) just started growing.”

She said that the Potato Growers didn’t plan on turning the event over to just anyone. They wanted to turn it over to an organization with vision and ability to keep it thriving.
