Auburn leaders approve $10M for new public safety building

A new home for the Auburn Fire Department is closer to becoming reality.

The facility is currently housed on a busy intersection along the Arterial and North Street, which it shares with the Auburn Police Department.

Last night Auburn City Council approved an ordinance for $10 million in bonding for construction at the site, according to The Citizen.

As far as costs are concerned, City Council approved the purchase of a property on Seminary Street, according to meeting minutes from earlier in 2019. The Citizen reports that it cost $990,000.

While it will be an expensive undertaking, it should be one that grants will help pay for. The Citizen says $3.2 million will be covered in grant funding, which includes $1.2 million from the DRI.
