Beer tax could be growing in 2020 if law moved during session

A larger beer tax? That could be coming if select lawmakers have their way in the coming weeks.

Manhattan Assemblyman Harvey Epstein has proposed the bill and is the legislation’s sponsor.

The bill would push a 14 cents per gallon tax on beer to 30 cents.

An estimated $50 million would be generated by the tax increase.

Those funds would be distributed within the SUNY and CUNY education system.

Distributors of beer in New York State would be impacted by the tax increase.
