One federal lawmaker is putting consumers on alert after the FBI issued a warning about smart TVs that may be listening to and watching you.
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York) is now urging the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to launch an investigation to protect the privacy of consumers who have microphones and cameras in their TVs.
From talking TVs to speaker systems, the smart devices are designed to make our lives more convenient, but they could be an open invitation to hackers and security risks.
“There’s no doubt that hacking into your smart TV is becoming much more common,” said Schumer. “We get many more reports of people being hurt by this kind of hacking. And they get around passwords, so a password isn’t really going to solve the problem.”
