At the United Martial Arts Center in Victor, every kick and roll, is a lesson learned.
Instructor Toby Reh says the lesson of the day is self-defense.
“What we’re doing here kind of transcends just the physical things that are happening on the mat,” he said.
The focus on self-defense comes just after News10NBC Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean spoke to a Rochester woman who says she was attacked while at her front porch.
According to Allyson Harper, she had to push off and kick her alleged attacker as she called 911. The suspect ran away, and Harper, while stunned, is still alive.
Back at United Martial Arts Center, instructors like Reh are teaching the Brazilian defense art of Ju-Jitsu, where each move has a purpose.
