A scary scene after the Sunoco gas station canopy collapsed that could have been much worse has people wondering, how could this have happened?
Tim Everingham, the general manager of the Sunoco says, he thinks snow might be the cause.
Joel Plumley, the President of Plumley Engineering, a company that designs structures like the canopy at Sunoco, says, snow was more than likely not the cause.
With 40 years of experience, this is the 3rd one he has seen collapse.
“More often than not it’s a problem with corrosion of the canopy columns that the canopy supports. In fact, this is what I’m seeing here, the base of these columns that supported the canopy, rusted considerably. But it was below the grades so you really couldn’t see or foresee it,” Plumley said.
