On a night when Mayor Ellen Polimeni presided over her final regularly scheduled Canandaigua City Council meeting, councilmembers and city staff made sure her contributions to the city will be remembered long after she leaves office.
On Thursday night, City Council recognized Polimeni’s 28 years as mayor, along with her years of prior service on City Council and the City Planning Commission, by renaming a street for her.

North Shore Boulevard by Canandaigua Lake will now be known as Ellen Polimeni Boulevard. Mayor-elect Bob Palumbo, who currently sits on City Council, presented her with an extra-large green and white street sign.
Polimeni said she didn’t know how to react, except to say “thank you.”
