Residents in Tompkins push to make walk to school safer for kids

Residents have been campaigning for resources that would make children’s walk to and from Ithaca’s Northeast Elementary School and Dewitt Middle School safer from speeding automobiles.

Data from the Tompkins County Highway Department shows an alarming number of cars speed on Warren Road.

After being concerned about speeding on Warren Road, Diego Licón, a nearby resident, started approaching officials, whom he’s had discussions with for two years. He also created a petition that he and 31 of about 50 residents in the area signed to present to local officials.
