Yankees sign former Twins outfielder Zack Granite to minor league deal

According to Bob Nightengale from USA Today, the New York Yankees have signed Zack Granite to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. The deal also includes an opt-out on June 15. So, if he’s not on the Major League roster by that time, Granite can request a release from the organization.

Granite elected free agency after the Texas Rangers out-righted him off the 40-man roster on October 31.  The 27-year-old  

He was initially drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 14th round of of the 2013 draft out of Seton Hall.

Granite will be given a chance to earn a spot on the Yankees opening day roster. With Aaron Hicks undergoing Tommy John surgery a few weeks ago, he will have a good chance to play in Pinstripes. Even if he doesn’t make the opening day roster, this move will add outfield depth.
