Visitors to Canandaigua may be paying a bit more for their stays starting in 2020.
Canandaigua City Council on Thursday night gave the OK for an increase in the occupancy tax, from 1.5 percent to 3 percent.
The move gives the city needed revenue, councilmembers said, as they try to reduce a proposed 9.5 percent tax levy increase for next year. The proposed $15,848,979 spending plan for 2020 carries a 3.43 percent increase over the current plan.
“We saw this as a way of increasing our revenue stream,” Mayor Ellen Polimeni said.
