Deputies: Man shot animal that didn’t belong to him, now faces felony charges

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Howard resident after investigators say he shot-and-killed a domesticated animal that did not belong to him.

Christopher Bertram, 48, of Howard, New York is accused of shooting the animal in Howard, then moving it to another location in the village of Canisteo.

Bertram was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, tampering with physical evidence, and criminal mischief – all felonies.

He was arraigned and released to answer the charges at a later date. Deputies say that additional charges may be filed.

Deputies were assisted by the Canisteo Village Police Department.
