Syracuse falls to Louisville, 56-34 (full coverage)

The Syracuse Orange came into Saturday’s game needing a win to keep realistic bowl hopes alive. Unfortunately, they left with a 56-34 loss against the Louisville Cardinals, despite some real chances to win both at the beginning and end.

The SU offense tried, fleetingly, to pull the team back into the game after halftime. But an onside kick failed in controversial fashion and a 4th-and-goal from the 2 turned to a 4th-and-goal from the 18 were overmatched the thin margin for error that SU’s defense provided its counterparts.

PREVIEW:

The revived Syracuse football defense that kept Duke out of the end zone on Saturday faces a stiffer challenge this weekend in Louisville.

Back on the road, and a two-score underdog again, the Orange (4-6, 1-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) will be tasked with battling one of the conference’s most productive offenses.

“The offense that we’re about to play is a lot better than the offense we just played,” SU head coach Dino Babers said at his Monday press conference. “They’ve got some cats and they can do some things.”
