Police say they arrested two residents on Niagara Street in Canandaigua following a physical altercation, in which a small dog died.
Police were called to an address on Niagara Street for the report that two people had engaged in a physical altercation. Through investigation, police learned that furniture had been overturned during the incident – and a Miniature Doberman Pincher was trapped, and ultimately crushed beneath it.
Police say that the dog died as result of the incident.
The Ontario County Humane Society was called to the scene and took possession of the deceased dog, as well as another dog as a safety precaution.
The two involved in the physical incident were identified as 60-year-old Frederick Moskala and 59-year-old Maryann Grant, both of Canandaigua.
A medical exam confirmed that the dog died from internal injuries caused by the furniture landing on it during the incident.
Both Moskala and Grant were charged with animal cruelty. They’re scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
