Major League Baseball’s offseason is here, and so are the preliminary rankings for the top prospects in each team’s farm system heading into the 2020 season.
Last week the experts and insiders of Baseball Prospectus released their first top-10 ranking of next year’s Yankees farmhands, and talented right-hander Deivi Garcia took the top spot.
At just 20 years old, Garcia skyrocketed up to the Triple-A level last season, and was one of the youngest players to compete at that level in 2019.
With 165 strikeouts in just 111 1/3 IP a year ago (13.3 K/9), Garcia’s filthy stuff should make him one of the game’s most exciting up-and-coming young arms.
At No. 2 on the list behind Garcia is 16-year-old wunderkind outfielder Jasson Dominguez, the prize of last summer’s international prospect pool who ended up signing a club-record bonus worth more than $5 million.
Dominguez has been described as, “one of the best [prospects] to come out of the international market in recent years,” and even without a full professional season under his belt is considered among the best young players in any MLB pipeline.
