City Council members in Canandaigua are facing tough choices as they try to avoid a large tax levy hike on next year’s budget.
Thursday night, council members had their first shot ton suggest a wide range of cost-cutting ideas, then, in real-time, they simulated what the impact would be on the levy.
City leaders in Canandaigua are looking at ways to reduce a proposed 9.5% tax levy increase.
With the proposed rate, homeowners would pay an additional $130 on a home valued at $167,000.
The hike is to try and address shortages in the city’s fire, police and public works departments.
