As of now — with less than a month before a 2020 spending plan is adopted — the proposed city of Canandaigua budget calls for a 9.5 tax levy increase.
City Manager John Goodwin’s proposed $15,848,979 budget shows an increase of 3.43 percent over the 2019 spending plan and calls for a 10.91 percent tax rate increase, to $7.887 tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value.
If adopted as is, the tax bill on an average city home with an assessed value of $167,500 would increase from $1,191.08 this year to $1,321.05 next year.
