The Leapfrog Group has released new grades for area-hospitals – an effort that has been ongoing since 2012.
They assign letter grades to hospitals based on 28 patient safety measures. Leapfrog contends that those measures indicate how well patients are protected from things like preventable injuries, infections, and more.
At least one area hospital saw improvement over last year’s ratings.
Here’s how every hospital in the region fared:
Geneva General: C
Auburn Community: B
Newark-Wayne Community: C
F.F. Thompson Hospital: D
Upstate University: B
Cayuga Medical: C
St. Joseph’s: A
SUNY Upstate Medical: C
Crouse: D
Highland: B
Strong Memorial: C
Rochester General: C
Unity: B
Guthrie Corning: C
Arnot Ogden Meidcal: D
Editor’s Note: Soldiers & Sailors, Clifton Springs, and Schuyler hospitals were not listed in LeapFrog’s database.
Auburn Community Hospital President and CEO Scott Berlucchi said their latest grade is a ‘key indicator’ of the effort staff have put into making patient care a priority. ““We are extremely pleased with our patient safety grade of ‘B.’ Patient safety and quality of care metrics are the foundation for an excellent patient experience. It is also very encouraging to know that our grade has gone up since the last survey,” he said.
