BOCES leader chosen to lead search effort for Geneva’s next superintendent

Geneva Begins Search for Newton Successor

By Josh Durso

The Geneva City School District is moving forward with their efforts to find their next superintendent.

At a meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Education adopted a resolution to authorize the appointment of Dr. Vicky Ramos, District Superintendent of the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, to serve as lead search consultant.

The appointment will allow Dr. Ramos and the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES to support a thorough, full search, according to Geneva City Schools Public Relations Officer Heather Swanson.

The Board of Education said in a press release that the goal and schedule of the search process will be to appoint a new superintendent with the anticipated start date of July 1st, 2020.

Superintendent Trina Newton announced her retirement at a board meeting over the summer. In a letter to the district Newton said, “I am extremely grateful to the board for granting me the opportunity to serve this community; it would be difficult to overstate how fortunate I feel to have spent the final years of my career serving Geneva’s children.”

She has been with the district since 2012; and the timing of her exit will coincide with the projected start date of the next superintendent of schools.
