Strong third period lifts RIT over Niagara

The RIT (7-1-2, 4-0-2 Atlantic Hockey) men’s hockey team beat Niagara University (0-7-1, 0-3-1 Atlantic Hockey) 4-1 in Atlantic Hockey action from Dwyer Arena Saturday evening. Trailing 1-0 after the first period, the Tigers outscored the Purple Eagles 4-0 in the second and third periods.

Will Calverley (Scarborough, Ontario/Chilliwack Chiefs)Jake Joffe (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto Jr. Canadiens)Nick Bruce (Fall River, Nova Scotia/Johnstown Tomahawks) and Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks, AK/Flin Flon Bombers) each scored for RIT. Bruce finished with a goal and an assist and Elijah Gonsalves (Scarborough, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) had two assists. Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) picked up the win in net for the Tigers, making 16 saves. Ben Sokay scored for Niagara, and Chad Veltri took the loss for the Purple Eagles, making 26 saves.

Sokay gave Niagara an early lead, scoring 36 seconds into the game off an assist from Dylan Mills and Justin Kendall.
