Gov. Andrew Cuomo is giving a tip of the hat to Operation Hard Hat.
The joint initiative between State Police and DOT enforces the states Move Over Law, which requires drivers to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency and highway maintenance vehicles with flashing lights.
The governor’s office says State Police have issued more than a thousand tickets statewide during the operation that targeted motorists who drove recklessly through work zones.
State troopers dressed as highway workers while stationed in work zones to catch drivers who broke the law and put DOT workers at risk.
