Carthage senior Josh Demko ran the opening kickoff back 73 yards for a touchdown – and that was a bad omen for Auburn in tonight’s Class A sectional football championship game inside the Carrier Dome.
The Comets muscled their way to a 27-7 halftime lead, behind the hard running of senior Fombo Azah, the passing of quarterback Nick Cavellier, and a physical defense.
There was no comeback for the Maroons this time, as Carthage took home a 55-7 victory – the fourth sectional football title in school history and the first since 2013.
