The New York State Department of Transportation says they’re geared up and are ready to keep the highways clear for you all winter long.
Signs along highways like I-690 west say winter weather is on the way, which puts snowplow drivers on alert to buckle up for whatever Mother Nature has in store for them.
State DOT Equipment Instructor and Operator Jeremy Johnson says each driver goes through refresher-training. We drove the course with him.
“We are doing a road course with all the tow plows this year, we do it every year annually, before the snow season starts to make sure that they are honed-in on their skills, and used to running everything again and making sure everything’s working properly,” explained Johnson.
The course was made up of hundreds of cones in the St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview.
