Longtime Mayor Polimeni concedes to Palumbo in Canandaigua

After roughly 20 election campaigns for mayor and City Council since the 1980s, sooner or later Mayor Ellen Polimeni would come out on the losing end of an Election Day result.

And on Tuesday night, that happened, as Councilmember Bob Palumbo defeated Polimeni by 83 votes — a 1,357-1,274 margin.

“Eventually, you’re going to have to face that,” Polimeni said.

Polimeni conceded the race Wednesday morning. After learning that approximately 125 absentee ballots were out, Polimeni said it was statistically unlikely she would be able to make up the 83 votes.
