Canandaigua resident charged with identity theft after forging money orders to pay rent

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 21-year-old Canandaigua resident after an investigation into a forged money order.

Investigators say that Jasmine Phoenix, 21, of Canandaigua was arrested on multiple charges after attempting to pay rent with forged money orders at the CreekView Apartments.

Phoenix is accused of forging the money orders in the name of a former acquaintance. Investigators say that the money orders were $1,000 each.

While deputies investigated, they say that Phoenix was also found to be violating an order of protection.

As result of the full-investigation, deputies charged the Canandaigua resident with two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, identity theft, and criminal contempt.

Deputies say Phoenix was taken to the Ontario County Jail pending arraignment.
