Lodi man shot by homeowner after breaking into Genesee County home

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Lodi man was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital a little after 9 p.m. on Tuesday after he broke into a home in the Town of Stafford.

Deputies say that a Stafford man shot a suspect who broke into his home. They were called to the Clinton Street Road just after 9 p.m. for a reported home invasion.

Charles Cooper, 36, of Lodi, who appeared to have a pistol, forced his way into the home and demanded cash. After making their way through the first floor of the home – Cooper demanded more cash.

While Cooper’s attention was elsewhere – the homeowner grabbed a shotgun and fired – hitting the suspect.

Deputies say that Cooper had to be airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The homeowner and his wife were not injured in the incident.
